Military Caskets for Sale: Veteran Caskets by Branch and Price

A military casket is a funeral casket finished with the emblem, colors and hardware of a branch of the US Armed Forces. This guide lists every veteran casket we make, by branch and price, and answers the questions families ask us most often: what the VA does and does not pay for, who qualifies for military funeral honors, and how to get a burial flag at no cost.

Military Caskets by Branch and Price

We make three military lines. The Veteran Select series ($2,499) carries the full branch emblem and branch-coloured interior. The Veteran Premier series ($2,299) carries the same branch emblem with a white crepe interior. The Veteran series ($1,999) carries a 'Flag at Rest' head panel rather than a branch emblem, which suits veterans of any branch and families who want something less service-specific.

	Veteran Select Air Force: $2,499 A high-gloss dark blue finish with a dark blue poly blend interior and silver piping. The Air Force emblem embroidered into the head panel carries the requisite 13 stars in ultramarine and gold.
	Veteran Select Army: $2,499 A black high-gloss finish with a gold-lined black poly interior. The US Army Eagle emblem is embroidered on the head panel and echoed in the gold-tone hardware.
	Veteran Select Navy: $2,499 A high-gloss dark blue finish with a gold-lined dark blue poly blend interior. The embroidered Navy emblem and matching gold-tone hardware carry an eagle and nautical rope chain.
	Veteran Select Marines: $2,499 Black, red and gold. The red carries throughout, from the eagle, globe and anchor head panel emblem and matching hardware to the piping of the black poly blend interior.
	Veteran Select Coast Guard: $2,499 A dark blue steel exterior with a Coast Guard blue interior and silver hardware, carrying the Coast Guard emblem in the head panel.
	The Veteran Dark Blue: $1,999 Suitable for veterans of any branch. Rather than a service emblem, this casket carries a 'Flag at Rest' head panel with American flag and eagle hardware imagery, and a light blue crepe interior.
	The Veteran Silver: $1,999 The same 'Flag at Rest' head panel and patriotic hardware in silver, with a white crepe interior.

The Veteran Premier series offers the same branch emblems at $2,299 with a white crepe interior, in Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and Marines. How Much Do Military Caskets Cost?

A military casket from Titan Casket costs $1,999 to $2,499 in a standard size, and $2,499 to $4,099 in oversize widths. Funeral homes commonly mark up branch-emblem caskets well beyond this, which is worth knowing before you agree to a package price.

Under the Federal Trade Commission's Funeral Rule, a funeral home must accept a casket you bought elsewhere, and it cannot charge you a handling fee for doing so. You are entitled to buy the casket wherever you like and have it delivered to the funeral home.

Does the VA Pay for a Veteran's Casket?

No. The VA does not provide or pay for a casket for a veteran buried in a VA national cemetery. The family buys the casket. What the VA does provide, at no cost to the family, for burial in a national cemetery is the gravesite itself, opening and closing of the grave, a burial liner, a government headstone or marker, a burial flag, a Presidential Memorial Certificate, and perpetual care of the grave.

There are two narrower exceptions. The VA may pay a burial allowance toward funeral costs in certain cases, most commonly when the death was service-connected. And the VA provides a casket or urn only for the unclaimed remains of an eligible veteran with no next of kin and insufficient resources. Who Qualifies for Military Funeral Honors?

Military funeral honors are available on request for service members who died on active duty and for veterans discharged under conditions other than dishonorable. Eligibility is normally verified from the veteran's DD Form 214, so find that document early.

By law, the honors detail consists of at least two uniformed service members, at least one of whom is from the veteran's own branch. The two core elements are the playing of Taps and the folding and presentation of the United States flag to the next of kin. A live bugler is preferred; a ceremonial bugle or a recording may be used where one is not available. A correctly proportioned flag folds thirteen times into the tricorn shape, one fold for each of the original colonies.

Honors are arranged through the funeral director, who contacts the relevant branch on the family's behalf. The National Cemetery Administration and Military OneSource both publish what to expect on the day.

How to Get a Veteran's Burial Flag

The burial flag is free. You apply using VA Form 27-2008, the Application for United States Flag for Burial Purposes. VA regional benefit offices are the main issuing point, and some post offices hold them, though not all do. Call ahead rather than turning up. Funeral directors will usually handle the application for you.

The VA issues only one flag per veteran, and by law it cannot be replaced if it is lost, damaged or stolen.
